Why do some photos have a date and some an age?

You may have noticed that at the top of the timeline, and when you go into the full view of a photo by tapping on it, you are given either the date the photo was taken or the age the child is at the time of the photo.

For instance, here is a photo where the date is given:

And here is another photo where the age is given instead:

The reason is actually really straightforward - if there is only one child tagged in the moment, BackThen shows the child's age, but if more than one child is shown, the date is shown instead because the children will have different ages.
